Description

Over 200 Patterns Explained and Illustrated for Beginners in Stocks, Futures, and Forex
By A.S. Bullingham · A Field Guide to … series · Coming soon

Double tops, head-and-shoulders, flags, wedges, cups with handles, harmonic patterns, Wyckoff schematics and the terms of smart-money teaching: chart patterns are usually taught with a picture and a promise. This book gives every one of them something more useful: an exact rule.

A Field Guide to Chart Patterns covers over 200 patterns from the standard references and newer teachings. Each one is drawn and described in plain English, with its other names, its look-alikes and the way traders traditionally read it. Each pattern is also written down as a precise, step-by-step rule, so that two readers looking at the same chart will mark the same pattern.

Inside the book:

  • Every pattern pictured. The most widely used patterns get several pages each; the rest get a short entry or a small picture with its rule.
  • Exact rules instead of “about” and “clear”. Swing points, lines, breakouts and targets are defined once and used throughout.
  • A number to beat. The book shows how often each pattern appears in random prices, where nothing can mean anything, so a reader knows what chance alone produces.
  • Three kinds of market. The examples use stocks, an index future and a currency pair, and explain what changes between them.
  • A way to test any pattern yourself. The last part shows how to count patterns by hand, keep a log, allow for costs and work out how many trades a fair test needs, before any money is at risk.
  • Any name, one index. Find a pattern under any name it goes by, old or new.

Written for beginners who have never read a price chart, and for traders who know the names but want rules they can check. It is not a trading system, and it doesn’t tell anyone which patterns to trade.

Free downloads with the book: printable forms, a quick-reference sheet and practice charts with answer pages (free registration required).

Trading involves substantial risk of loss. This book is for education only and is not investment advice.
